NASHVILLE, TN (July 20, 2017) – Spawn Ideas won the Gold medal for Small Agency of the Year, Northwest Region at the 2017 Ad Age Small Agency Awards in Nashville last night.
Presented by Ad Age, the leading source of news and intelligence for the marketing community, the Small Agency Awards are the premier honors saluting outstanding work created by independent shops with 150 or fewer employees. The Small Agency Awards were launched nine years ago to ensure that the groundbreaking campaigns and innovative brand ideas generated by smaller companies receive the recognition they deserve. The July 31 issue of Ad Age will feature a special section on the Small Agency Awards winners.
Spawn was founded in 1975 in Anchorage, Alaska (headquarters today). Transformation came with employee ownership in 2005 and a subsequent rebranding a few years later to Spawn Ideas (from The Nerland Agency). The agency has actively diversified its client base through its Denver office (2015), and projects with clients like Intrawest Resorts, Power Pro, Cable One and the Outdoor Industry Association. Its Small Agency of the Year entry included work for The Alaska Railroad, Ericsson, GCI and Northrim Bank.
“Of course, it’s a cliche to say that good things come in small packages, but cliches exist for a reason: These small agencies are nimble and agile and shatter silos,” said Ad Age editor, Brian Braiker. “These shops are doing all of that plus taking on projects, creating brands and launching products in ways that redefine what it fundamentally means to be an agency.”

The Small Agency Awards were presented during the annual Ad Age Small Agency Conference, which brings together hundreds of marketing, advertising, design, media, and brand professionals from around the nation to explore trends and issues impacting the nation’s small advertising agencies.
