copywriter intern

Department: Creative

Reports to: Creative Director

Status: Exempt

the agency:

If you’re ready for the most invigorating ascent of a lifetime, Spawn Ideas is right for you. Our home base is in Anchorage, AK, nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Chugach mountains.

Spawn is a fully integrated advertising agency that’s independent and employee owned, which means our team of employees all have “skin in the game.” There are no sideliners here, just a bold and resourceful team with enough courage to summit any challenge for our clients.

Up here, we’re perpetual adventurers who pursue the outdoors and bring a fresh perspective to our creative work. We live by the mantra “when the agency succeeds, we succeed.” Our ownership and determination to push further has led us to success for our clients and a series of accolades we’re quite proud of.

We’re recognized as an agency that punches above its weight. In 2017 and 2018, we are Ad Age Small Agency of the Year winners – as a standout northwest agency and for great culture. And we’ve been named one of Outside Magazine’s 100 Best Places to Work in America (nine years running). In 2015, Inc. Magazine named us among the Fastest Growing Companies in America and we were called one of the nation’s 75 Best Places to Work for Millennials too.

We give you the tools, direction and encouragement. You climb the mountain!

the program:

The Spawn internship. It’s not easy to get (true), stressful to apply for (truer), but it could be your first step toward becoming a One Show winning writer. It’s no doubt the best way to test the waters and see if you’ve got what it takes to cut it in the fast-paced world of an ad agency. No training wheels here. This is the real deal and we are looking for the next copywriter intern that is ready to prove their passion and dedication to the world (and us here in Anchorage/Portland).

the goals:

Spawn Ideas is not your average creative internship. We don’t need our floor scrubbed or coffee delivered to our desks (though caffeine is never turned away). We need someone who will actually do the work. You’ll be working on projects right alongside the rest of the creative team and will be looked to for writing expertise, creative concepts and the occasional brilliant idea. We want you to leave this internship with a couple of pieces for your portfolio that make you proud. (That is, of course, if you ever leave. A good portion of our office started here as interns!)

expectations:

Our creative interns are expected to perform at the same level as entry-level employees. Now, don’t worry. We don’t expect you to have agency experience or have all the answers, but we do want you to know your way around a keyboard and be ready to crank out some great work. And most of all, what you don’t know, we want you to be hungry to learn. Your time at Spawn will involve:

  • Working with the rest of the creative team on anything from online ads/content and collateral pieces to TV and radio scripts.
  • Busting serious butt to get jobs done on time.
  • Training with all departments to learn how our industry works.
  • Pitching in whenever needed

You should be a friend to all, whether you’re dealing with your creative director, account service, other interns or the FedEx guy. You absolutely must be a team player, cooperative and fun to work with. It is crucial that you are organized, able to meet deadlines, a multitasker and all-around awesome. You have to be a conceptual thinker and a great (or aspiring to be great) writer.

education:

Portfolio school a plus. Examples of solid creative writing and thinking a must.

to apply:

Send resume, cover letter and 3-5 work samples (or a link to them) to:
Guy Ragnetti, guy.ragnetti@spawnideas.com
